Ross School Announces Inaugural Season of Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Golf Teams

East Hampton, NY – Ross School is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Golf Teams, marking a significant milestone in the continued growth of its athletics program and an important step forward for girls’ sports on campus.

Ross debuts its girls golf program this spring with a full, all-Ross roster, making it the only school in the area fielding a fully dedicated girls team. The team’s first match is set for Monday, April 13, marking an exciting milestone for the program and the School. Driven by strong student interest and community enthusiasm, the team will train and compete out of Noyac Golf Club, where players benefit from a premier course and an exceptional environment to develop technical skill, strategic thinking, and confidence in competition.

Matches begin in April, and the inaugural roster includes 16 players, reflecting both the depth of interest and the school’s commitment to building a strong, competitive program from the outset. In addition to interscholastic competition, student-athletes will have opportunities for early-season training and skill development.

The program will be led by Christian Cardarelli, PGA Professional at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, joined by Pat Gunning of Noyac Golf Club, Leigh Notley of Gardiners Bay Country Club, and Payton Hodson, a former Division I golfer at Valparaiso University.

“We saw real enthusiasm from our students, and when we looked at what we could offer, the coaching, the setting, the opportunity, it felt like a natural and exciting fit,” said Head of School Tom Sturtevant. “This is about more than a single sport. It’s about giving students confidence, discipline, and something they can carry with them well beyond their time at Ross.”

“This is an exciting and meaningful moment for Ross,” said Robyn Mott, Co-Athletic Director at Ross. “The launch of our Girls Golf Team reflects both the passion of our students and the strength of our community. Golf is a sport that builds discipline, focus, and resilience, and there is no better place to learn and compete than the East End. This program didn't exist a year ago. Now we have sixteen girls, elite coaching, and a first match on April 13. We are proud to create new opportunities for our student-athletes to develop their skills, support one another, and represent Ross in a new arena.”

The creation of the Girls Golf Team reflects Ross School’s broader commitment to expanding athletic opportunities and supporting student growth through sport. Building on that momentum, Ross is excited to launch a boys golf team this fall, further strengthening the program. The team’s debut also speaks to the power of the Ross community, with families playing an instrumental role in bringing the program to life.
