Facilities
Our beautiful tennis facility, located on the Ross School campus in East Hampton, NY, is open to the public.
The Ross Tennis Center features an airy, two-level Field House with versatile meeting spaces. Refined and minimalist-inspired, this athletic outpost anchors multiple tennis courts and athletic fields. It is a destination for students and faculty, a site for special events held at Ross School, and a resource for the greater East End community.
The Ross Tennis Center features six Har-tru courts that are enclosed by a bubble from mid-fall through mid-spring, allowing for year-round play. Adjacent to the courts is a state-of-the-art field house, featuring amenities such as locker rooms, lounge, snack bar, and ping-pong tables.
The exterior is clad in grey-stained vertical cedar siding, echoing architecture found elsewhere on campus and throughout the East End. The interior materials include curved birch natural wood veneer ceiling panels, porcelain floor tiles, and recycled rubber flooring. A geothermal well for cooling reduces the building’s carbon footprint.
LOBBY
The ground level of the Field House is a spacious central meeting place designed around a prefabricated industrial steel vault form, welcoming visitors to the tennis courts. A two-level wall of windows on two sides of the building provides natural light. The transparency between the interior space and outdoor terrace overlooking the tennis courts offers a seamless visual flow between the two spaces. At the entrance, mounted fountain plaques highlighting donors and generous sponsors lend a Zen-like ambiance to the space as the sound of flowing water runs softly in the background.
Small tables set up throughout the lobby seat 32 people and offer a place to relax, share a meal with friends, or play a game of chess. Pillow-strewn couches line walls of windows, and a large television is often turned to the Tennis Channel. Reproductions of vintage Olympic Games posters of Olympic Games line the walls for inspiration. Speakers allow music to be played throughout the main lobby and on the terrace.
OUTDOOR TERRACE
The Outdoor Terrace provides ample courtside seating for six hydro Har-tru tennis courts. Large tables seat up to 40 people. A bubble is erected from mid-fall to mid-spring, allowing year-round viewing. Outdoor speakers allow for background music.
LOCKER ROOMS
Beautiful, well-appointed locker rooms for men and women are located on the ground level, near the courts. The use of stone, tiles, and earth-toned colors captures the essence of a spa. Each shower comes equipped with ceiling-mount rain showerheads and sea stone towel holders. Soft, clean towels are provided. A skylight brings the outdoors inside, and black-and-white photographs of athletes inspire healthy living.
FIELDS AND COURTS
The Ross Tennis Center features six state-of-the-art hydro Har-tru tennis courts, which are enclosed by a bubble from mid-fall through mid-spring, allowing for play year-round. The center also includes three multipurpose athletic fields that can be configured for soccer, lacrosse, or baseball, as well as a full-size outdoor basketball court.
