The students in grade 10 traveled to East Hampton’s Maidstone Beach for their annual en plein air trip. The trip is a tradition for the class, connecting to their lessons in Romanticism. In their core classes, students study Romantic art and writings created in response to the Industrial Revolution. Spending the day outdoors and creating artwork allows them to better understand the Romantics’ centering of nature in their work.
During the trip, students worked with watercolors, wrote poetry, and practiced pencil drawing and oil painting. Additionally, they engaged in a nature walk led by instructors Chrissie Schlesinger, Jen Cross, Barbara Strong, and Kim Borsack. The students’ time at the beach inspired some beautiful expressions of creativity.
