Earlier this month, young actors in the Ross Children’s Community Theater staged two performances of Beauty and the Beast.
The play was adapted from Disney’s 1991 Academy Award–winning animated film and its subsequent Broadway musical, with some original material as well. The production tells the story of Belle—an ambitious woman with hopes of life beyond her home in the French countryside. After sacrificing herself to prevent her father from being imprisoned in a cursed castle by an angry beast, Belle learns compassion and finds love in the company of her captor. This production was directed by Lower School Performing Arts instructor Margaret Kestler, with the assistance of local musician Loreen Enright.
