Ross School Early Childhood and kindergarten students were visited this week by farmer Chris O’Hanlon, director of education at Amagansett’s Amber Waves Farm. Farmer Chris cut into a variety of vegetables from the squash family, including Long Island cheese pumpkin, delicata squash, and pie pumpkins to highlight their similarities and differences.
Students enjoyed tasting fresh lacinato kale and wheat berries from Amber Waves, and Farmer Chris shared locally grown apples from Milk Pail farm.
At the end of his visit, Farmer Chris assisted the children with potting wheat berries and gave them instructions for caring for their new plants until his return to the Lower Campus on November 1.
