Facing stiff competition this season, Ross girls varsity tennis came back from an early 1–6 heartbreaker with East Hampton to an 8–4 finish on the season and a 7–3 record within the conference, including a pair of wins over Westhampton and a redemptive 4–3 victory over East Hampton late in the season.
The team overcame a slew of obstacles on their way to a winning record, including the ineligibility of star player Abby Okin (a new Ross student) for the first half of the season. Rory Gallaher had a terrific year at #2 and #3 singles, overcoming an early loss to finish with a personal record of 11–3. Daisy Gallaher and Livia Azevedo, the #3 duo, locked down several key doubles victories on the way to big team wins.
Ross tied with East Hampton for second place in the conference, finishing behind William Floyd and beating out Eastport Manor, Westhampton, Mercy, Mattituck, Southampton, Shoreham–Wading River, Hampton Bays, Center Moriches, and Southhold/Greenport.
The entire team will be returning next season, which bodes well for this talented young group. We look forward to a bright future for the program and a lot of great tennis to come.
