The second grade visited Ross parent and artist Sylvia Hommert at her studio on Shelter Island on November 14. This is the second year Mrs. Hommert has hosted the second grade. They learned about her creative process and looked at her abstract artwork. They even got to work with her the next day in the Lower School art studio, creating their own abstract works of art following her technique.
Students carved their own designs on canvases covered in hologram paper, resin, and beeswax. They then painted over the surface and removed the paint from the etched areas to reveal the hologram paper. Sylvia will complete the process by putting a coat of resin over the entire surface. The final pieces will be displayed at the school for the remainder of the year.
