WHAT IS ANNUAL GIVING? Annual Giving is Ross School’s primary fundraising initiative that directly benefits our students during this 2011–12 academic year. From July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, we ask everyone to help us raise funds for the School’s operating expenses or special purposes.
WHAT IS THIS YEAR’S ANNUAL GIVING GOAL? We have two goals: to reach a minimum giving level of $700,000, and to have 100% participation.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN ANNUAL GIVING? We are asking all members of our community—parents, grandparents, alumni and their parents, our trustees, faculty, staff, special friends, local and national businesses involved with Ross, and foundations—to contribute as generously as possible.
DOES TUITION COVER THE FULL COST OF EDUCATING A STUDENT? As with most independent schools, Ross School’s tuition does not cover the total expense of educating our students. Annual Giving contributions are critical to help the Ross School close the gap of approximately $4,400 per child between revenues and operating expenses.
WILL I BE PERSONALLY CONTACTED TO DONATE TO ANNUAL GIVING? It is very likely you will be contacted to donate. The best way to avoid future solicitation is to give or pledge early!
DOES ROSS SCHOOL HAVE AN ENDOWMENT? Like many other young independent schools, Ross School does not yet have an endowment to help close the gap between revenues and operating expenses.
DO ANNUAL GIVING DONATIONS SUPPORT SCHOLARSHIPS AT ROSS? No. Annual Giving donations go directly into this year’s operating expenses or for specifically designated purposes. Ross Scholarships total approximately $2.5 million annually and are funded by special events such as our annual Club Starlight.
CAN I DESIGNATE MY GIFT? You can choose to make an unrestricted contribution to be used by the School for needs we deem most pressing, or designate your gift to particular Ross programs or facilities that appeal to you.
WHAT ARE CHALLENGE GIFTS? Challenge, Matching, or Lead Gifts are contributions that are contingent on being matched by other donors within a designated time frame. It is helpful to announce a gift of this sort early in our appeal to encourage others to maximize their Annual Giving donations. Please contact the Development Office to set up a Challenge Gift from yourself or from your organization.
ARE ANNUAL GIVING DONATIONS TAX DEDUCTIBLE? Yes, to the fullest extent of the law. Each donor receives a thank you letter and gift confirmation that serves as a receipt for tax purposes. |
For additional questions or to discuss ways of giving, please contact the Development Office at 631-907-5214 or email development@ross.org.
