Ross School’s Eighth Annual Live at Club Starlight benefit, held Saturday, June 25, 2011 in the Great Hall in the Center for Well-Being, raised over $500,000 for Ross School programs and scholarships, including the Steven J. Ross Scholarship Fund.
With over 400 in attendance, this year Club Starlight honored renowned American jeweler David Yurman and his wife Sybil, whose continued philanthropic work on behalf of education and the arts is an inspiration to the entire Ross community.
The festivities began with a cocktail reception in a beautiful tented area outside where guests enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres and bid on a variety of items in the silent auction. Once they moved into the Great Hall, they were served a delicious dinner, catered by the famous Ross Café, and listened to Emcee Colin Jost, a writer for “Saturday Night Live” and stand-up comic. They also watched a short documentary on Ross School and bid on exciting items at the live auction with the help of auctioneers Dr. Gerry Curatola, a Ross School Trustee and parent of three Ross alums, and Ross CFO Scott Pottbecker.
After dinner, guests pushed back their chairs and hit the dance floor for multi-platinum swing band Cherry Poppin' Daddies, who performed notable hits including "Zoot Suit Riot" and "Brown Derby Jump."
The Steven J. Ross Scholarship Fund, which was established in 1991 at the School’s inception by Courtney Sale Ross and Steven J. Ross, ensures that all children have the opportunity to benefit from a Ross School education regardless of economic circumstances. The SJR Scholarship Fund granted financial assistance to over 45% of Ross School students during the 2010–11 academic year. |
